Treasure case 2018 T796. Description: Two fragments of a cast copper alloy chape or scabbard end, dating to late bronze age or, early Iron age c. 1150 - 800 BC. The two remnants are of a short bronze sheath/chape with an approximate total remaining length of 14cm, complete examples are usually 20 to 30 cm long. It is probable that they belonged to swords and not, as their size may suggest, to daggers. This example has a simple mid-ridge with no further decoration nor edge ribbing. Both are circular in section and cylindrical in form with a tapering point at one end with the other ends worn and blunt which may have originally expanded into a wedge-shape, used to erase what had been written with the point. The die is slightly irregular in shape but with well-squared corners and smooth, flat faces with drilled dots to indicate their values. It measures 9.5 mm by 8.6 mm by 7.6 mm and weighs 7.25 g. The buckle frame is long and thin, with concave long sides and convex short sides. The frame is unevenly square in section. An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy harness pendant (c. 1150-c. 1300). The pendant has a worn through suspension loop which is 90° to the plane of the plate. The wavy edged plate is leaf-like or insect-like in form with ridges on the front that possibly represent veins. The reverse is plain. This pendant is drab green. A Late Neolithic flint Plano-convex oblique arrowhead, probably dating to c. 2700 - 2400 BC. Worked from a tertiary flake of opaque white/cream flint. The arrowhead is broadly triangular in plan with straight edges and a concave basal edge that has been thinned to accommodate hafting of the item. There is clear edge retouch to the dorsal side with some evidence of further modest retouch to the ventral surface, although damage due to erosion in situ is also a likely cause. The arrowhead has a pale cream/grey appearance with numerous natural inclusions.

A complete Medieval copper-alloy book mount of Howsam type B.1.2 (c. 1150-c. 1300). This umbonate quatrefoil mount is domed at the front and largely concave on the reverse.
