A complete copper-alloy finger ring with embossed decoration of probable medieval date (c.1300-1500AD).
Description: The finger ring consists of a 4mm wide copper alloy hoop with a slightly d-shaped cross-section and relief decoration all around the circumference. The decoration consists of a fine diagonal hatching with an overlay of floral banding in the opposite diagonal. This floral-like banding has centrally in each band a line of dots. An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of Medieval date, c. AD 1150 - 1450. The object is a composite strap end with forked spacers. It is comprised of two plates which are sub-rectangular in plan, tapering almost to a point before widening into two symmetrical knops then narrowing again and terminating in a trefoil knop. The other end of the plates are bifurcated. An incomplete Iron Age copper-alloy La Tene I, bow brooch, (c. 450 - 300 BC). The spring, pin, catchplate and part of the foot are missing.
The bow is convex at the front and rear. Both the front and rear of the bow have three longitudinal facets running its overall length. From the stub at the top, the sides of the bow flares in width to the centre and then taper inwards to the catch-plate In side profile the bow is strongly arched.
This brooch has a dark green patina, with some pitting.
Measurements: 23.75mm long, 18.99mm high, 4.26mm thick and 2.82g in weight.
