A silver Post-Medieval shilling of William III (AD 1694-1702), dating to the period AD 1694-1702. The coin is extremely worn rendering all detail illegible and leaving only traces of the bust on the obverse. The reverse has been engraved with the capitalised and ligated initials MB above a stylised hourglass shape. The lefthand diagonal of the M and the upright of the B have repeated diagonal striations. The addition of lettering on such a worn coin suggests its reuse as a love token. Coins of William III (AD 1694-1702) were commonly converted into love tokens.
