A complete and worn post-Medieval silver halfgroat of James I (1603-1625), minted at London. Initial marks: illegible, c. 1604-c. 1620 (North 1991: 146, refs: 2104/2105 or 148, ref: 2127). Obverse: [I D G ROSA SINE SPINA] (a rose without thorns); Rose with crown above. Reverse: [TVEATVR VNITA DEVS] (may God guard these united, i.e. kingdoms); Thistle with crown above. Diameter: 16.0mm. Weight: 0.89g. DA=12:3. North, J.J. 1991. English Hammered Coinage, Volume II, Edward I to Charles II, 1272-1662. Spink & Son, London.
