Copper alloy bell fragment. A shard from the lower hemisphere of a one-piece cast spherical animal bell, from alongside the sounding slot, also retaining part of the edge of a sounding hole. The lower hemisphere of the bell was covered in a field of moulded scales arranged in overlapping rows. A grey tint may arise from tin included in the metal mix for its acoustic properties. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1700.
