Object type: TOY
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast copper alloy toy miniature canon of late Post-Medieval date (17th-19th century). These models were produced as complete working models of their larger counterparts. This toy cannon comprises a circular barrel that tapers from bulbous knop (cascabel button) at one end, to the muzzle at the other. Two trunnions, which are round in section, project from a collar midway along the barrel. These would have enabled the piece to be elevated and mounted onto a wooden wheeled carriage such as that depicted in Bailey (1993), p.37, No. 12. The length is 53mm, the width is 19mm thickness 10…

Lead alloy toy gun, as kindly suggested by the finder.
