Treasure case 2018 T547: Disclaimed, returned to finder Description: A complete gold finger ring with a gem inset bezel probably dating to the Post- Medieval period. The hoop would have originally been circular in profile but has been compressed from one side of the ring so that it is now sub-oval. The hoop is circular in cross section and even in thickness (1.2mm) until reaching near the bezel. Medieval lead alloy seal matrix. The matrix is circular, 2.7mm thick and 24.8mm in diameter. There is a flattened suspension loop at the rear. The die face depicts an eight armed Maltese cross with central pellet, surrounded by a beaded border and a legend in Lombardic lettering, the last portion of which is difficult to read. Part of a copper alloy strap end that is rectangular in shape with tapering sides and a flat forward edge. The narrow end has a crude animal facemask consisting of two crescent lines for ears and an irregular shaped snout outline. The main panel is decorated with iregular incised lines in a rectangular border. The irregular lines have a buff/white material in them. There are traces of silvering at the lower end of the front of the strapend. More silvering survives on the reverse, though some of it is covered by an area of iron corrosion. The upper part of the strap end has broken off.

Copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester derivative 'two-piece' type, dating to the period c. AD 40 - 70. The brooch is almost complete, though is missing the catchplate and pin. The bow is ridged and features a central spine which heightens toward the head where two parallel ridges also appear at either side.. There is a 'V' shaped notch in the spine at the crest of the bow head which separates the bow portion from the double pierced lug.
