A complete copper-alloy enamelled stud of late Iron Age to Roman date, c. AD 40 -80. The stud is circular with a D-shaped section and a chequerboard design on the upper surface. The resulting cells are infilled with alternating red and yellow enamel. The metal has a dark brown patina and is in good condition. The stud is 13.7mm in diameter, 2.5mm thick and weighs 1.6g. A similar stud is inlaid in the bone and bronze hilt of an Iron Age sword from Rudston, East Riding which is dated c.300 BC - 100 BC (YORYM : 1948.938). An incomplete copper-alloy bell-shaped stud of Allason-Jones type 2, probably a furniture fitting, dating to the Roman period. The body of the stud is cylindrical and flares at the base, resembling a bell. The base is slightly convex and has a raised cicular moulding in the centre, which is surrounded by a very worn and shallow circumferential groove, as well as an exterior, and similarly worn, circumferential groove. A copper alloy medieval stud or tack dating from the 15th- 16th century AD. The stud is sub square in shape, from each corner a rounded circular knop projects. The main body and the knops are convex, and hollow on the reverse. There are patches of gilding across the surface of the stud. On the reverse an integral shank projects, this is circular in cross section, and is flattened at the end - this is possibly a worn break.
