Large copper-alloy terret ring of probable Roman date (c. 100 - 200 AD). The object is roughly D-shaped and circular in section. The ring widens at the straighter edge to a lozenge-shaped section which is demarcated by a raised collar on the outer edge, while the inner edge curves upwards into a triangle finished by a flat, circular knob. A wide, flat ridge runs lengthways across the lozenge-shaped section and the surface within the raised collar is rough and uneven, suggesting that another part, possibly a further loop, has broken off from here. Otherwise, the object has a smooth dar…

A fragment of a Medieval rotary key dating from about AD 1200 - 1500. Ony the bow survives. It is quatrefoil with projecting ridges in the angles between the lobes, and circular holes through each lobe. The hole in the outmost lob is larger than the others and worn, suggesting the key was suspended from this point. A hollow or depression in the centre of the bow is filled with concretion, though the cavity does not appears to extend through the bow into a hole. The lobe adjacent to the stem is broken and the stem and bit are missing. The key has a glossy green patina. It is 38.1mm lon…

A copper alloy hollow hemisphere, now somewhat flattened, possibly part of the pommel of a Post Medieval sword dating from about AD 1600 - 1750. There is damage around what was probably a hole or slot in the apex of the dome. The base of the hemisphere looks complete, but if it is part of a pommel, the lower half must have attached here. Both faces of the object are decorated with a pair of intertwined dolphins modelled in relief. Each pair face away from each other, with their noses touching their tails, the middle part of their bodies wrapped round each other. Though no close parall…
