A complete lead alloy biconical decorated spindle whorl of probable Medieval date (AD 1200 to AD 1450). Description: The spindle whorl is sub-circular in plan and lentoid in section. Both the upper and lower faces have been decorated an inscription cast in relief. Each of the spindle whorl's faces are divided into four quarters by raised pairs of lines. Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy possible strap fitting. A cast rectangular section bar of width 5mm with wedge-shaped ends, probably worn to that form. A semi-circular loop projects from one side of the bar; it is of squared section at its springing, but worn to rounded section above. The wear at the ends of the bar may have been promoted by tension on a strap passing through the loop, and from concomitant wear at the ends of the bar, presumably against whatever retained them. The construction is too light for this to come from horse harness. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1700. Length: 59.6mm, …

Lead unidentified object. A small cast hemispherical boss standing proud of a thin [1.2mm] flat-bottomed and possibly circular base; it is uncertain whether the curled edges may point to this being the solid punt from the bottom of a small vial or lid, or whether they represent post-depositional damage to the edges of an originally flat surface. The boss has a circular incised line on top, and either another line or a slight waist around its middle. Patinated. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1900. An incomplete copper-alloy possible terret ring of uncertain type of Iron Age or early Roman date, c.200BC-AD50. The terret fragment is curved indicating a D-shaped or sub-circular shape and is oval in section. There are two integral oval knobs projecting from the outer curve of the terret. These could indicate that the terret is of the dropped-bar type, where the bar itself has broken away. However, the terret thins after one of the projections, possibly forming a bar, which suggests that the adjacent projection could be part of a collar and the second projection could be decorative,…

The bow has a rounded front face, is curved in section with a flat back and is thicker and wider at one end with broken edges on all sides.
