A silver Roman denarius of Trajan (AD 96-117), dating to the period AD 103-111 (Reece period 5). PAX (in exergue), COS V P P S P Q R OPTIMO PRINC reverse type depicting Pax standing left holding cornucopia and setting fire to pile of arms. Mint of Rome. As RIC II, p. 251, no. 102.
This coin has suffered from post-depositional damage resulting in the surface lifting away from the core in large areas of the flan. The visible metal beneath does not immediately suggest this coin is a plated copy, rather the damage may well be the result of exposure to heat or fire.

Object type: KEY (LOCKING)
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Published
An incomplete copper alloy Roman openwork, trilobate key handle (AD c. 150 - c. 410).
The bow takes the form of an openwork trefoil with a keyhole shaped aperture in each lobe. A rounded knop and collar is located at the apex. A collar of three ridges separates the bow from the stem, the latter of which is of rectangular section. The collar is very worn and the three ridges are only visible on one side. The exterior surface of the ring is decorated with repeating foliate design between each word in an inscription. The inscription reads + A + MA + VYE (to my life) in French, black letter script. The inner surface is undecorated and both surfaces show minor abrasions caused by post-depositional pro…

A heavily worn Roman copper-alloy radiate of unclear ruler, clearly one of the ceasars and possibly Tetricus II (AD 272-274), dating to the period c.AD 272-274 (Reece period 13). Reverse type depicting Sacrificial implements. Unclear mint. This is most plausibly a coin of Tetricus II, although could be one of the earlier caesars from Herennius Etruscus through Valerian II and Saloninus to Tetricus II.
