A hardly worn Medieval Venetian soldino (c1365 - 1423) or 'Galley halfpenny' of Doge Michele Steno (AD 1400 - 13), minted at Venice between 1400 - 13. Measurements:15.17mm in diameter, 0.49mm thickness and 0.37g in weight. Discussion: The silver soldino of Venice was known as the galyhalpens (galley-halfpence) as it was brought by the annual Venetian trading fleets. The soldino was about the size of English halfpennies and was popular because of a contemporary lack of small change.
