An incomplete post medieval copper alloy double loop buckle, dating from 1550-1650. The loops are D shaped, with a rounded oval knop projecting from the centre of the outer frames. These are worn, but are moulded into two rounded sections. On the inside of one of the projections there is a worn notch, possibly from the now missing pin. The inside of the frame is bevelled. The pin bar is narrowed, and is sub triangular in cross section. There is red brown iron staining on one part of the pin bar, suggesting that the pin was made of iron. A complete copper alloy medieval single loop buckle, dating from c. AD 1350-1450. The loop widens on the outer frame. The buckle is flat on the reverse, and it is semi circular in cross section. The pin bar is recessed, and squared at each end. The pin consists of a piece of copper alloy wrapped around the pin bar, and narrowing towards the point. The buckle has a light green patina. It measures 17.3mm in length, 15.1mm in width, and weighs 1.77g.
The buckle is similar to ones shown in Egan and Pritchard 1991, page 70.
