Record ID: HAMP-865417
Object type: JETTON
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A post-medieval anonymous issue 'ship penny' jetton of the ship/ orb type, struck at Nuremburg and dating to c.1525.
Mitchiner comments (1988, 376) 'The small aberrant group of 'ship penny' jetons with the Imperial orb as their reverse design shows the presence of well executed designs combined with fictitious inscriptions. In respect of such features they appear to belong about mid way through the sequence of anonymous 'ship penny' jetons, hence the suggested date of circa 1525'.
