~~This is a 9th century copper alloy strap end that has an animal facemask on the forward edge. There is a slot at the rear edge whereby the strap would be inserted and riveted into place; there are two copper alloy rivets are still in place. An incomplete copper-alloy early medieval (middle Anglo-Saxon) disc or 'cogwheel' brooch. The brooch has a flat circular plate with openwork and moulded decoration. This consists of a central cross with a domed lozenge in its centre and short arms, each expanding into two opposing lobes terminating at the edge of a surrounding circle. An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle dating to the late Early Medieval period (Late Saxon), c. 1000-1100. Only the frame survives, the accompanying pin and plate missing in old damage. It is 'D' shaped in plan, demonstrating an offset thinned strap bar and a heavily thickened outer edge to the frame, which thins at its shoulders. Where the sides of the frame join with the strap bar, it posesses zoomorphic terminals in the form of devolved animal heads. An incomplete middle early-medieval (Anglo Saxon, c.700-900) copper alloy polyhedral-headed pin, missing part of the shaft. The head is flat (sub-rectangular in cross-section) and square with the corners cut off in shape. Three of the resulting points are flattened while the edges of the head are faceted, sloping away from a central ridge. The head (6.8x7.7x3.4mm) has thirteen facets in total, with a rib collar at the fourth point and the shank (1.3mm diameter) extending beyond to an old break.
