An incomplete copper alloy unidentified object, presumably a tool of some kind, of uncertain date. The surviving pointed element is conical in shape with an oval cross-section, 29.1mm in length and max.7.1mm wide and 6.5mm thick just above the base where it narrows to 6.5x5.7mm. A collar of grooved linear decoration c.6mm high flanks the base of the cone and features a pair of lines forming a zig-zag between a single concentric groove (at the base) and a pair of concentric groo…

Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of an unidentified copper alloy artefact of unknown date. It consists of a curved length of thin metal, probably part of a larger arc. In cross-section, the metal is angled at about a forty five degree angle, perhaps suggesting the fragment is from the middle of a biconvex object. There are faint traces of a double groove running along the outer face of the change of angle. All the edges are incomplete. The artefact has a dark green patina. It is 30.3mm long, 8mm wide and 2.1mm thick. It weighs 1.84gm. It could possibly be part of a bell, ferrule, or other unidentified object.

Lead unidentified object fragment. One end of a cast rectangular box with a hole of diameter 4.3mm drilled through its base; it appears that a diminutive gutter runs towards this hole, so its provision may have been an original feature of the object. Fine casually executed cuts appear across the upstanding edges of the box, and there is a small dimple in its upper surface at its surviving end. The object is distorted towards the cut or broken end, probably by the episode which truncated it. Patinated. The casual finishing might suggest this to be a toy or miniature object, though if …
