Copper alloy book fitting. A probably cast plate with a trefoil end, engrailed or concave sides, and with a sharply turned-over end, now broken. Probably stamped vegetal detail contributes to a complex Neo-Classical floral scheme springing from a pelta-shaped figure. A pair of tiny [diameter 1.3mm] closely juxtaposed prongs behind the trefoil end may have assisted the attachment of the object to a leather-clad book board. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800.
