An incomplete iron 'lobster pot' helmet from the English Civil War. The helmet is formed of two plates folded over at the top. A triangular visor survives, but the bars are missing. The visor/peak is riveted to the helmet by a dome headed rivet on either side. The visor still moves. The tail survives largely intact, but is damaged in places. There are ten rivets set around the perimeter, six of which retain a rectangular washer of sheet copper alloy on the interior. A corroded Post Medieval iron 'key-hole' type horseshoe, probably dating to c. AD 1600-1900. The horseshoe is U-shaped in plan and slightly bevelled in cross section with a key-hole shaped perforation in the centre. The arms curve inwards and end in sub-rectangular terminals to create the key-hole shape. Only one nail hole is visible through the corrosion, as well as the remains of a corroded rivet. Dimensions: Length 138.2mm; width 132mm; thickness 11.7mm; The object weighs 436g. cf. similar objects on this database, e.g. DEV-5B5583, LANCUM-094174.

Copper alloy and iron tuning key. A solid D-shaped flat-sided handle, apparently sheathed in copper alloy, but with a ferrous metal core from which projects the stub of a corroded shank of diameter c.4mm, here taken to be the stem around which instrument strings would be wrapped. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1850 Height: 12.5mm, Width: 13.3mm, Thickness: 5.6mm, Weight: 3.47gms
