An incomplete iron 'lobster pot' helmet from the English Civil War. The helmet is formed of two plates folded over at the top. A triangular visor survives, but the bars are missing. The visor/peak is riveted to the helmet by a dome headed rivet on either side. The visor still moves. The tail survives largely intact, but is damaged in places. There are ten rivets set around the perimeter, six of which retain a rectangular washer of sheet copper alloy on the interior. A Medieval circular mount dating from about AD 1200 - 1400. It is circular and is formed from pressed metal; copper alloy sheet. The design is in relief and is a sun or star with six curved or wavy rays or arms, surrounded by a beaded or ropework border. A short copper alloy rivet survives on the reverse and there is a circular perforation diametrically opposite which would have carried the other rivet which is now missing. Copper alloy and bone button. Composite discoid button with a probably die-stamped copper alloy front with a central dished hollow and a right handed spiral arrangement of small leaf-shaped figures against a finely lined ground; a border of continuous flattened triangles limits the decorated field. Gilding traces appear extensively. A slightly plano-convex section bone disc with a groove around its outer edge serves as a back plate clenched by the rim of the front, with a drawn wire loop passing into it. Copper alloy medieval buckle plate. A thick cast straight-sided plate with a narrowed projecting slotted rectangular tab which is folded tightly against the back of the larger part. Moulded vertical bars appear at the inner and outer edges of the display side of the plate, and a pair of prongs project from its putative inner end. This configuration would more normally be rendered in flexible sheet metal, but this may be indicative of early construction. Suggested date: Medieval, 1150-1300.

Description: a late medieval gold finger ring, dating to the 15th century. The hoop is circular (though now slightly distorted) and formed of a flat band. The exterior is decorated with a quatrefoil formed of four lozenges set between each word of the legend '(?ent) cuer douz cest pout nous' (my gentle heart is for you). The inscription is in black letter script. No trace of enamel survives in the recesses, but it was likely to have been decorated as such when worn.

Copper alloy book fitting. A probably cast plate with a trefoil end, engrailed or concave sides, and with a sharply turned-over end, now broken. Probably stamped vegetal detail contributes to a complex Neo-Classical floral scheme springing from a pelta-shaped figure. A pair of tiny [diameter 1.3mm] closely juxtaposed prongs behind the trefoil end may have assisted the attachment of the object to a leather-clad book board. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800.
