A possible Medieval to Post Medieval lead pencil, dating to circa AD 1200-1600. The object is cylindrical in cross section. It is broad at one end with a flat ended terminal and tapers towards a narrower blunted point. The object has been slightly bent along the shaft. It has an off-white to grey coloured patina across all surfaces. The pencil measures 64.3 in length,8.9 mm in width and thickness at the broadest end. It weighs 31.4 grams. An incomplete cast copper-alloy brooch of Colchester Derivative, hinged type dating to the Roman period, c. 43-100 AD. Most of the pin and catchplate are missing in old damage, though otherwise the brooch is preserved intact. It demonstrates a circular-sectioned winged head, the outer edges of the wings on their front faces decorated with two pairs of double plain transverse collars.
