Roman copper alloy nummus from the 4th century AD, very heavilly worn and encrusted with corrosion products. The obverse shows a diademed bust facing right, the reverse shows a figure advancing right, dragging a captive. No legends or mint marks are legible.
This compares favourably to later 4th century types (364-378 AD, Reece & James (2000) number 140, p41) and may be a nummus of Valentinian or Valens.

Three pieces of a medieval horse harness. All iron and badly corroded.
1: This piece comprises the snaffle bit (or possibly half of it) and one of the cheek pieces now fused together by corrosion. The snaffle bit is a curved, rounded iron bar with a round loop at each end. One loop is narrow and has the remains of a small ring going through it. The other is wider and has a larger, D shaped,hoop and bar attached that form the cheek-piece. The bar of the cheek-piece runs at right angles to the snaffle bit. Sevon incomplete flakes prehistoric flint debitage. The flakes represent a number of flint sources, and are a mix of tertiary and secondary flakes, although where it survives the area still covered by cortex is invariably small. The proximal end survives on three flakes, these all have relatively diffuse bulbs of percussion, only one exhibiting a bulbar scar and with one exhibtiign a slight 'lip' at the platform, suggesting the use of a soft hammer. Cast copper alloy dress pin with a hollow spherical head that has been cast around a clay core, still surviving within the head and visible through a hole on one side. The sphere has a pattern of intersecting crosses of pairs of parallel incised lines that terminate in a double square at the apex of the head, with four pairs of intersecting petals emanating from the square on the top of the upper hemisphere. Post medieval gilded copper alloy mount 35.1mm in length. The mount comprises a transverse rectangular plate decorated with low relief scrolls between two smaller rectangular plates, each decorated with a row of six pellets. These smaller plates are surmounted by sub-triangular openwork scrolled finials with a knop at the apex. One finial is missing. The rear is plain and has two integral, circular-sectioned attachment spikes on the reverse, one of which is broken.
On the basis of comparative finds (NMS-316090), likely to be a 17th century harness mount.
