Post-medieval copper alloy dagger guard, the quillons are sub-rectangular sectioned, flat ended, with the underside (i.e. next to the blade) flaring to a point. There is a projection at the mid point with a downward-turning crescentic terminal, representing a stylised scallop shell, with two transverse (horizontal) grooves on the narrow upper part and three vertical grooves on the expanded lower part. Incomplete medieval to post-medieval composite copper alloy unidentified object, possibly a strap fitting, comprising a discoidal back-plate with separately applied (soldered) sheet strip, the ends butted together to form a bordering rim, within which a central rivet retains a central boss of twin hemispheres above another domed element and a concave octofoil. On the reverse the remains of a sheet strip, broken at both ends. Diameter 17mm. Height (length of rivet) 10mm. Perhaps 14th century.
