An incomplete post-medieval (1550-1650) copper-alloy double-oval buckle frame, missing its pin. The frame is now slightly buckled. The frame is D-shaped in cross-section, being flat to the underside. Both outer edges are ornate, decorated with a stylised rosette motif at the centre and two triangular knops to either side. The object measures 49.3mm in length, 35.7mm in width, 3.2mm in max.thickness and weighs 9.47g. Whitehead has published a similar buckle and suggests a date of 1550-1650 (2003, 66; ref: 409). A probably late medieval/ post-medieval (1400-1700) copper alloy link or strap distributor, cast in one piece and comprising two annular rings (c.15mm diameter) linked by two bars c.12mm in length and c.12mm apart. One of these bars has a central recessed area to the outside edge only, c.5mm in length. All components have a roughly rectangular cross-section c.2x2mm and there is evidence for the removal of casting flashes and seams. The metal is dark green in colour with a smooth, shiny patina. A post-medieval (c.1600-1900) cast lead alloy possible palm guard for use by a leather worker or sail maker to protect the palm whilst stitching. The shape of this example (oval, and thicker to one long edge than the other) suggests it may have solidifed in a shell. The underside is flat with an off-centre raised ring; to the opposite face this is at the centre of a wider (and more roughly shaped) circular depression. An incomplete lead or lead alloy pilgrims ampulla dating from the medieval period; circa late 13th - late 15th century (AD 1250-1500). The fragment consists of the lower rounded body of the ampulla. The neck of the ampulla is missing. On one face the object has been decorated with a series of emanating ribs that represent the scallop shell which is associated with the pilgrim site of St James of Compostela in Spain. A complete cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is rectangular in plan with a rounded corners and a drilled frame with a separate spindle with a double spiked tongue. The metal has a greenish patina with some of the original tinning still apparent. The buckle is 16.81mm long, 15.98mm wide, 3.13mm thick at the bar and weighs 1.7g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead, p.114, no.734 and is dated to circa AD 1720 - 1790.
