A lead alloy spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date, circa (AD 1100-1600). In plan the spindle whorl is sub-circular and in profile is bi-convex. There is a central sub-circular perforation which is 11.7 mm in diameter. Both faces have been decorated with a repeating pattern of ribs forming a zig zag pattern.The surface of the spindle whorl is cream to grey in colour . There are many spindle whorls recorded on the database, (WMID-16C0FC) was discovered in the Staffordshire Moorlands and (WMID-B1DE0D) near Walsall in the West Midlands. A complete lead or lead alloy flat spindle whorl, of Roman to Post Medieval dating (AD 43 - AD 1650). The spindle whorl is sub circular in shape, and D shaped in profile. The central hole is sub circular in shape and has an internal diameter measuring 7.2 mm wide. Both faces are undecorated. The front face is convex and the reverse face is flat. The whorl is of a light cream colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
