A broken silver penny of William I 'The Lion' of Scotland, dating c. 1205-1230. Short cross phase B coinage, moneyers Hugh and Walter working jointly at the mints of Edinburgh/Perth. Spink 5029. Only around 40% of the coin survives, the rest missing in irregular breaks.

Silver coin. Scottish hammered penny of Alexander III (1249-1286), second coinage, class Mb2 (Spink S5054) dating to 1280-92. Six pointed mullet in each angle on the reverse (24 points in total). Ref: Spink 2015, pg 19. In very fine condition; the finder emphasises this was how the coin was discovered.
Obverse description: Bust left, sceptre before face; plain or Latin initial cross.
Obverse inscription: +ALEXANDER DEI GRA
Reverse description: Long cross, mullet of six points in each angle.
Reverse inscription: REX/SCO/TOR/VM+
Diameter: 20.3mm, Weight: 1.36gms…
