Cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable medieval or post medieval date (1300 - 1700). The weight is sub-circular in plan and sub-triangular (conical) in cross section. Through the centre of the weight is a vertical hole which is circular (4.4mm) at the base . This hole may have had a wire or cord passing through it to aid safe-keeping and storage. The weight is undecorated although the sides are heavily worn and partially faceted. It is a mid grey colour with an even patina that covers all surfaces. An irregular cast lead alloy vessel repair (pot mend) of probable Roman date (50-400). In plan the repair is broadly oval and has an abraded H shaped cross section. These types of mend were used during many different periods but this example has been found with other datable Roman finds The vessel repair measures 28.5mm length, 20.6mm width is 10.3mm thick and weighs 33.38 grams. The H section has a groove of variable width - most regularly 3.4mm wide.

The implement has an elongated spoon-like terminal with a ridge running along its length on the reverse. The terminal narrows to the shaft which has double collars either side of a bulbous swelling. There is no evidence of cast or applied decoration. The remains of a thick iron wire fixing loop is present extending from the upper edge of the weight - the upper part of this loop is lost and the breaks are corroded and worn. Part of an unusual medieval copper alloy composite strap-end. Tongue-shaped front plate broken across both chamfered sides towards the upper end of the frame with two internal inward-pointing arched subdivisions, both with a lobe projecting from the apex. The straight terminal has a projecting stylised acorn knop. Traces of possible solder on the reverse. Extant length 51mm. Width 14mm. 2.5mm thick. See possibly related forms of composite openwork strap-end in Egan and Pritchard (2002), 149, fig.97, found in late 14th - early 15th century contexts.
