Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast lower bow, pedestal foot and the stub of a catch plate from a headstud brooch, probably Mackreth type Headstud 5a. Five rhomboid cells apt to receive enamel appear down the centre of the front of the bow, though no clear trace of colorant remains. Suggested date: Early Roman, 75-125. Length: 23.3mm, Width [at foot]: 6mm , Thickness [top of bow]: 3mm, Weight: 2.12gms

Copper alloy brooch fragment. Cast hinged Colchester Derivative brooch, possibly Mackreth type CD H 5.a. Plain tubular wings [one lost] presumably retained an axis bar for a hinged pin [lost]. They are met by a D-section bow with a triple longitudinal moulding at the top, comprising ridges flanking a narrow central billeted zone. The bow tapers towards a plain foot; a groove on the back marks the site of a separate catch plate [lost]. Black material, possibly paint or oil applied in antiquity, adheres to the head and wing. A cast copper alloy fragment from the mid point of the bow of a Roman Trumpet Brooch AD 50-175. The head and foot of the brooch are lost and all that survives is the heavily abraded mid-point which comprises three swollen ribs with the central example being the thickest. Theer is no surface decoration left and the fragment is heavily abraded. It is a mid grey green colour with a powedery surface. The fragment measures 18.2mm length, is 8.1mm wide and 7.1mm thick. It weighs 2.75 grams

A broken and distorted cast copper-alloy late Iron Age / La Tene III style Nauheim derivative brooch dated c. 50 BC - AD 100. The brooch is almost complete missing just the foot / catchplate - this break is old and patinated suggesting damage in antiquity. A complete cast copper alloy two piece Colchester brooch or proto-head stud brooch of very late Iron Age to Early Roman date (1-75 AD). The head of the brooch is relatively small and two small stumpy wings extend from either edge. The wings are short and solid with a semi-cylindrical cross section. The spring is formed from a coiled length of copper alloy wire which has been coiled to form the spring of seven turns and secured by an integral external chord to a rearward facing hook. A complete cast copper alloy headstud bow brooch of Roman date (100-200AD). The bow wings are complete and stub-like being rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section. The pin / axis bar is held by a rolled spring case extending from the upper edge of teh rear of the wings - a vertical slot is cut from this spring case to accomodate the pin. The spring and pin are lost. The upper head of teh brooch has a drilled hole, through which an applied stud passes and is fixed by the two elements of teh shank being folded back upon themselves. An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, double pierced lug, Harlow type brooch of Roman date (AD 43-100). The fragment consists of the head of the brooch, with partially retained wings, which are C shaped in cross section. The bow of the brooch curves downwards from the head of the brooch, it is T shaped in cross section with a slight central ridge on the head of the object. An incomplete copper alloy composite Plate Brooch of Roman date (AD 43-200). The object is lozengiform and the retained portion is the lower portion of the plate, foot and partial catchplate. The plate has a raised border just inside its edge and a portion of a circular raised inner cell. Within the circular cell is a minor amount of retained orange paste/enamel.
