Copper alloy spoon fragment. Cast baluster ended terminal with two rounded expansions and two narrow collars between them, below the round terminal from a seal top spoon. The lower expansion has flattened facetted sides and the upper one is gadrooned or grooved, a decoration carried up onto the underside of the discoid terminal. The stem was of lightly facetted section, bent and broken at its lower end. Copper alloy spoon fragment. Cast baluster ended terminal with two rounded expansions and three rounded collars, the lower two juxtaposed. Terminal from the oval section stem of a seal top spoon. The finder kindly suggests an identification as a pipe tamper, but the oval section points to this being from a spoon. Bent and broken at its lower end. The use of copper alloy to make spoons was discouraged until the decline of craft guilds regulating their manufacture in the 17th century. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1700. Length: 60.7mm, Diameter (at end): 8.7mm, Weight: 10.53gms
