Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester one-piece brooch dating from the late Iron Age to early Roman period. Most of the spring, the pin and catch plate are missing. The brooch has a lump of copper alloy (of a different patina) attached near the top of the bow, possibly a miscasting or the result of the brooch being in contact with another copper item and exposed to high heat resulting in a fusing of the two elements. However as the bow appears to maintain its shape that primary suggestion is more likely. These brooches date from around AD 25-60.
