Object type: RING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy ring fragment. A small segment from a round section ring of estimated diameter c.45mm. The ring was solid cast in copper alloy but bears white metal plating overall. One end may be as made, with a bevelled edge to a constriction or a terminal. The other end is gouged, as is part of the band, suggesting the object has been traumatically involved with machinery. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1900. Length (as found): 30.5mm, Diameter (band): 6.9mm, Weight: 7.81gms

Copper alloy brooch. Cast hinged Colchester Derivative brooch, Mackreth type CD H 4-5 indeterminate. Possibly plain tubular wings clenched behind retain an axis bar for a cast pin which remains, albeit bent. The wings are clasped by a D-section bow with a thin but pronounced ridge at its crest. Copper alloy pin head, as kindly identified by the finder. Solid cast biconvex discoid head with the stub of a tapered shank of maximum diameter 4.9mm projecting. Cast copper-alloy hemispherical seed drill scoop, with a slightly tapered stem of round section, broken at its end. This would have been attached to a revolving drum, and scooped seed from a hopper. Lead alloy finger ring. Cast unusually thick square section band, thickened and slightly expanded at its bezel which appears to bear a small oval panel with the motif of a 'tick', as used by a popular brand of sportswear. Traces of gilding or of gold paint appear on both the inner and outer surfaces of the band. The diameter of the ring could suggest its use by a child, so it might be a toy.
