A post-medieval (1650-1700) copper alloy dress hook, eye-section, of Read's Class A Type 12 (sub-pentagonal with one attachment knop and two attachment holes in the plate). The sub-pentagonal plate has a raised rim flanking the edge and moulded decroation in the form of a four-petalled flower with sepals and fronds. Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A post-medieval lead alloy circular token with the raised initials TC on both facees; the token is now a little bent. A flat area at 12 o'clock on both faces suggests a casting sprue has been trimmed off here. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally. They are difficult to date precisely, although those with initials are generally thought to be post-medieval in date (c.1500-1850).
