A copper alloy Medieval annular buckle (or possibly a brooch) dating from about AD 1250 - 1400. The buckle frame is circular in plan and oval in cross section and is plain. There is no constriction for the pin (see Egan and Pritichard's Dress Accessories, page 64 and 65 for a discussion of the differentiation of annular buckles and brooches). The copper alloy pin is cast with an open loop to attach it to the frame, and a raised bar moulding across the pin adjacent to the loop. The tip is broken off and missing. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy gilded oval plate brooch (AD 200-350). This brooch is oval in plan and is heavily corroded and abraded. At the front it is recessed to accommodate a glass boss, now missing. Beyond the recess there are vestigial remains of punched circles. The rear face has the stubs of a pin lug and catch-plate. The brooch is corroded overall and has traces of gilding at the front. Length: 21.0mm; width: 13.7mm; thickness: 3.5mm. Weight: 2.05g.
