Description: a pierced silver denarius of Severus Alexander (AD 222-235) dating to c. AD 227 (Reece period 11). Reverse: PM TR P VI COS II PP, emperor standing left sacrificing over tripod. Mint of Rome. RIC IV (II), p. 75, no. 70. The coin has been pierced slightly to the right of the bust, respecting both it and the obverse legend in a clear act which would have allowed the coin to be suspended with the bust upright.
