A cast copper-alloy 'Winchester style' strap end of later Early Medieval (10th - 11th century) date. The strap end is incomplete and the upper and lower faces are lost. The damage appears to be old as the breaks are either corroded or patinated. Originally the strap end would have been rectangular (tongue shaped) with a rounded base and riveted attachment plate. The stepped attachment plate is lost and broken across the rivet holes whilst the rounded terminal has lost its projecting point.
