An incomplete cast copper-alloy Medieval barrel padlock dating from the 12th-16th century. The case is rectangular in section with flat ends and bulges around middle. One end of the case has a rectangular slot for the key and at the other end the rectangular aperture is divided into two by an internal bar. This would have taken the spring mechanism, a detachable portion that would have had an integrally cast, flat projection, terminating in the loop to hold the point of the padlock pin.
