Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Leeds
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast lead artefact, possibly a weight, probably of Medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1350 - 1800. It consists of a quarter segment of a sphere. Both flat sides and the outer hemispherical side are smooth, undecorated and evenly patinated with a light cream patina. The weight is 15.4mm long, 8.5mm wide and 7.7mm thick. It weighs 6.23gm. This is equal to 4 pennyweights in the English Troy system, but is also close to quarter of an ounce, or 100 grains. The shape being a quarter sphere could argue for it being a 0.25 ounce weight.
