An Early Bronze Age flint 'thumbnail' scraper, probably dating to c. 2400-1600 BC. Worked from a sub-oval promary flake of translucent brown flint now heavily patinated a milky white, with white cortex covering the entirety of the dorsal face, except for those areas exhibting retouch. A relatively diffuse bulb of percussion is present at the proximal end of the ventral face, with no bulbar scar. Object type: ADZE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Adze, bifacially struck from a water worn cobble of mottled light grey flint now patinated off-white with some small areas of iron staining to both faces. The cobble's original battered surface is unmodified on the tip of the butt, with one side dominated by a thermal (frost) fracture, making this triangular in section to just over half of its length, with flake removals struck from this using the frost fracture as a platform. This then restricts (bifacially) towards the narrow cutting edge, sharpened by a tranchet blow to the dorsal face. All flake removals appear to be semi-hard ham…

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Flint flake debitage of uncertain prehistoric date (c. 10,000 - 800 BC). The flake is D-shaped both in plan and section and formed from light-brown, mottled flint. There is a patch of cortex remaining on the dorsal face, suggesting this is a secondary flake. There is a very slight bulb of percussion at one end. There is no evidence of retouch. The flake is 49.95mm in length, 19.29mm in width and 4.13mm in thickness. It weighs 3.72g.
