An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of probable Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1690 - 1750. The frame of the chape is described as "cooking pot shaped" (broadly trapezoidal in shape, curving corners. Two internal spikes project from the inner edge of the loop. The chape is a dark brown in colour, with an uneven patina. A buckle with a similar chape is illustrated in Whitehead (1996, p.103, no. 662). This type of chape is also illustrated as type V on page 96 (Whitehead, 1996). Whitehead suggests a date c. 1690-1720 for this type of chape. Other similar buckles and chapes have been recorded on…

An iron hammer of a large flintlock pistol, possibly a Brown Bess lock (Noel Hulme, 1969, fig. 214, fig. 69, no. 5). The jaws would have connected together and to the hammer by a vertical bar running down one side. The screw would have run vertically through the jaws adjacent to the side fixed by the vertical bar and would have tightened to hold the flint in place. The flint is missing but would have projected beyond the open side of the baws - opposite the vertical bar and screw. The mechanism is showing signs of active corrosion. The length is 125mm, the width is 78mm and the weight…
