An incomplete copper-alloy Medieval strap end, dating to AD 1300-1450. It consists of two sheets of metal held together by a copper-alloy rivet on the attachment end. The strap end is sub-rectangular in plan and tapers towards the broken end; the opposite attachment end has old breaks as well, now worn. The front face has a line of punched triangles running longitudinally along the long edges. The back face is undecorated. The surfaces are very corroded and might have traces of tin coating. A gold finger-ring, made from a strip of gold, now distorted into an oval shape, and partially split at the join. The band is engraved around the outer surface with an inscription which appears to be pseudo-Hebrew: giving the impression of Hebrew, but which is illegible. Some of the characters are, or are similar to, genuine Hebrew letters, but some are illegible, and the meaning, if any, is not possible to interpret. Copper alloy probable nail cleaner. A narrow straight-sided strip with a point at either end, one longer and one shorter. The longer point may imitate the form of an angle-backed knife, an Anglo-Saxon and later form, while the shorter point is a downward angled triangle, p[erhaps a perfunctory tang for the 'knife'. The resemblance to a miniature tool or weapon may not be fortuitous, and is characteristic of both real and symbolic grooming tools accompanying early Anglo-Saxon cremation burials.
