The fragment is an irregular triangular shape in plan and slightly curved in profile - originally it would have been rectangular and the extant fragment represents a single corner. The fragment is pierced on one of its broken edges by a circular hole - which possibly may have held a rivet. A fragment of Roman silver finger-ring of keeled form, probably dating to AD c.100-410. It consists of an incomplete, probably squarish, bezel, one flat triangular shoulder and c. one third of the D-sectioned hoop. The bezel is 1.0mm thick and has no discernible decoration. It is 9.4mm wide where the shoulder extends. The shoulder narrows to 5.3mm just before the hoop begins and is 1.5mm thick. It is decorated with a central pair of longitudinal grooves. Incomplete Roman copper alloy stud dating to the period c. AD 100 - 350. Flat, discoidal head with a deep central recess containing traces of degraded enamel, now an off-white. This is surrounded by a shallower recess which is in turn surrounded by a concentric metal reserve and a second, wider concentric recess. Both recess contain traces of heavily degraded enamel of uncertain original colour. The edge of the plate is bordered by a reserve. An integrally cast cylindrical shank projects from the back of the stud and terminates in a worn break. See: Crummy 1995, p. 118, no, 3218.
