A complete, copper alloy pin of the Roman period (AD43-410). The pin has a sub-rectangular head with a circular perforation. The head tapers to a rounded shank which then tapers to a point. The top of the head is slightly angled to one side; this is possibly because of wear but could have been intentional. There is evidence of decoration around the head but, due to wear and corrosion, it is not possible to clearly determine the nature of the decoration, although it could be the outline of a hare's face and ears. There is strong evidence of gilding on the pin. Because this was high…

A copper-alloy coin of Roman date. A radiate coin of Carausius dating to the period AD 286-293 (Reece Period 14). The Reverse legend is unclear, but appears to be LEG (VICTRIX?) with a boar standing right. This suggests it was struck for Legio VI Victrix, but the die engraver has conflated the numeral VI with the first two letters of VICTRIX. London mint, - // ML. RIC - . This is the only coin known of its type and Legio VI only has two other known coins which honour it in Carausius' reign. This is a very important piece and it is hoped a slightly clearer specimen will be found in the…
