Lead probable weight. Cast trapezoid billet neatly cut from cast lead sheet. Patinated. The mass may suggest this to have represented an underweight quarter of an ounce. It was presumably for private rather than commercial use, as lead weights slipped from official favour from the 17th century onwards. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1850.

Lead alloy weight. A concavo-convex fragment of lead alloy, cut down to trapezoid form with a hole of diameter 3.5mm probably roughly drilled from one side, producing a countersunk aperture on its convex side. The metal is delaminating, a feature most usually observed on cast post-medieval spoons. Here, a large spoon bowl may have been cut or broken to improvise a line weight for fishing. Alternatively, as it is thick for a spoon bowl, this may be a shard from the everted rim of a vessel with improvised provision for suspension. In either case, the addition of the hole was a crudely e…

Late medieval copper alloy weight, 1400-1500. Thickness: 4 mm, diameter: 18 mm, weight: 5.58 g
The weight is circular in form and rectangular in cross section. It has a raised upper border and is stamped with a crown and a possible second symbol on either side of a central circular recess. Biggs (p.48) notes 15th century weights which were just stamped with a crown and also comments that they are similiar to coin weights which are also stamped with a lis, used to weigh nobles and dating to the 1420s.

A cast copper alloy artefact, probably part of the leg from a Medieval or Post-Medieval cooking vessel dating from about AD 1200 - 1900. It is roughly triangular in profile, being the foot and the lower leg. The lower, under part of the foot is flat, and the upper face has a central longitudingal ridge and a shallow hollow on each side. The upper end is a break. This is smooth, probably as a result of abrasion. There are traces of a black deposit on the outer face. The leg has a rough, light green patina. It is 18mm tall, 41mm wide and 17.7mm thick. It weighs 51.05gm.
