Copper alloy vessel fragment. Fragment of a cast cauldron leg with a thickened triangular-section foot and a central ridge on its outer side. Thick deposits of soot appear on the outer face, with slighter traces on the flat back, showing the object has endured prolonged use on a hearth. The upper edge is broken jaggedly, though the edge has been smoothed by post-depositional abrasion. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1350. An incomplete copper-alloy purse hanger of medieval date, c. AD 1250 - 1400. Approximately half of the hanger remains, comprising one complete arch and half of a second arch. An integral pointed ovate projecting knop is present at the junction of the two arches. A second, much smaller, integral pointed ovate projecting knop is also [resent to the opposite end of the complete arch, from which a narrowed terminal projects. The reverse is flat and undecorated. Copper alloy vessel fragment. Cast rectangular section cauldron leg, with an everted ?upper end which appears to have been brazed to the wall of the vessel at an angle, and incomplete and probably miscast at its other end. An incised line marks the change in angle at the more complete end. Faint traces of crossing incised lines, perhaps from a cross-hatched scheme, appear on both faces. Unusually, the object does not bear sooting traces. It may be a failed casting which was never attached to a vessel. An incomplete, Roman, folding knife handle of the 'hound and hare' type. AD 43-410. The original knife handle would have depicted an openwork hound chasing a hare. There is a hole piercing the remaining terminal that would have hinged the iron blade.The majority of the 'hound' is still present with its head and the 'hare' missing. What remains of the hound are the body and legs, these are set at an angle forming a triangular space beneath the hound. Roman copper alloy plate brooch that is formed from a disc with six projecting roundels evenly spaced around the outside edge. In the centre of the plate is an upwardly pointing pin that has a narrow waist and is secured in place by a single rivet at its base. This is surrounded on the main body of the plate by a wide recessed cell that retains traces of blue enamel. The cell is then surrounded by a double recessed border. An incomplete copper-alloy knee brooch of Roman date, c.AD 150 - 250. The brooch has a flat semi-circular head plate from the reverse of which a double lug hinge mechanism projects. The mechanism is coated with iron corrosion and the pin no longer survives. A bulbous bow project from the centre of the front straight edge of the head plate at a near 90 degree angle, swelling slightly and bending back downward again. An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle frame, probably a double loop asymmetrical buckle dating to the Post-Medieval period (c. AD 1575-1700). The frame comprises a flat rectangular sectioned and shaped loop and a narrowed strap bar. Only part of the opposite side of the frame survives. The two pins are pointed and attach to a rectangular plate bent around the strap bar. The underside of the frame is flat. The buckle frame measures 21mm in length, 20mm in width and 4.5mm thick. Copper alloy bell. Cast one-piece spherical animal bell with a pair of opposed blowholes in its upper hemisphere and with a pair of sounding holes joined by a slot on the lower. A rectangular loop projects from the top. A moulded circumferential rib marks the meeting of hemispheres. Traces of angular decoration appear near the sounding slot. One sounding hole is either miscast or broken, resulting in the loss of the clapper from within the bell. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1700. An incomplete copper-alloy sleeve clasp of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 450 - 570. Hines Class B12. The clasp comprises a sub-rectangular bar, one terminal of which is lost to a worn break. Two undecorated square panels with rectangular sections are linked by an integral narrower D-sectioned bar. The remains of a second such bar projects from the lower edge of the second panel and terminates in a worn break.
