Copper alloy button or cloak fastener. A thin [1mm] milled disc with a central scar on the back where a separate loop has been lost. The display face bears traces of a broad plain border and a feature within it whose discernible elements include a line of close-spaced curving lines above a semi-circular object with open cross-hatched texture; together these might define a thistle head though other heraldic possibilities might obtain. The display face bears gilding traces. Creased. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1750-1850. Diameter: 35.4mm, Thickness: 1mm, Weight: 6.61gms

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead window came. A fragment from the junction of milled cames of H-section marking where three or four glass panes of thickness 2mm [lost] formerly met, with a blob of solder attaching the end of a short [12mm] strip of lead ribbon with a lightly corrugated face to one side. The thin [0.5mm] leaves of the came indicate it is made of milled lead. Milled came is of post-medieval date, and this small fragment might as easily come from glazed furniture as from a window. The solder also appears fairly recent. Fragments from the meeting of light panes are among the most commonly reported e…

Object type: GAMING PIECE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lead possible game piece. Disc, probably cast, with incised features on one side. The clearest mark is a rectangle. However, one side of that figure - the uppermost relative to a further feature - also forms one of the crossing bars of a small Chi Rho. Lightly patinated, retaining the grey tint of metal. The inscribed mark could point to a later Roman date, though the good surface condition of the object and a paucity of Roman finds from the vicinity must qualify this attribution. Suggested date: Unknown, Late Roman to Post-Medieval, 200-1900. Diameter: 23.8mm, Thickness: 1.4mm, We…

Description: The fragment represents about a third of a flat circular seal matrix. There is no reverse lug or suspension loop remaining on the reverse. The central device is uncertain but appears to be a fern like device. Copper alloy possible seal matrix fragment. A pressed metal hemispherical object with a subdivided closely-spaced chevron motif at its outer edge, and with fine vertical fluting above it, plain on top. The plain area may be where a handle has been lost, or might arise from heavy wear. The interpretation offered envisages this object clenching an engraved stone matrix [now lost], probably with a handle or suspension loop [if so, also lost]. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1750-1850. Object type: SPOON
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy possible spoon fragment. An oval or leaf-shaped object of thin metal, split at its wider end, and beaten roughly overall. Though the object bears green corrosion, recent abrasions show white coloured metal, possibly evidence for the presence of tin in the metal mix. If a cast spoon, this would have to have been very worn to get this thin; alternatively it may have been improvised from sheet metal for a particular task. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1800. Copper alloy unidentified object. A small oval fragment of thin 0.6mm sheet metal with a stamped left-hand spiral design made up of very fine and closely juxtaposed curving grooves, extending to a plain and intermittently crimped border.
