Object type: FERRULE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy probable ferrule. Cast hollow spherical decorative knob, probably from the end of a cane, with moulded lines of hollow pellets and flowers with foliage arranged in alternation around its circumference. A bordered hole of diameter 15mm may suggest the girth of the stick this adorned. There is scant trace of wear, as might be expected to arise from regular handling, so an alternative identification as a decorative fitting from furniture might also be considered. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1825-1875.

Dark [probably] green glass with all surfaces coated with golden iridescent decay products; wine bottle fragment. A small shard from the basal punt of a large [with an estimated basal diameter probably exceeding 200mm] wine or champagne bottle, presumably broken in antiquity. Object type: SCISSORS
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy probable scissors fragment. A fragment from the mid-part of a handled blade with a curved inner end and a straight 'cutting' edge - what survives is blunt - and with its rectangular section handle halved in its thickness to permit a similar blade to turn on a pivot or rivet of diameter 4mm. The end of the putative handle is very short, with three deeply defined collars before a rounded end. It would have been necessary for the collars to have engaged with a handle of different material were leverage to be exerted to work the scissors. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1…
