Detached leg from a copper alloy cooking pot or cauldron, probably of medieval or post-medieval date, c1200 - 1600. It is roughly pentagonal in plan and rectangular in section. The sides are parallel and it has a straight break at the upper end where it would have been attached. It slopes at an angle of c.30 degrees from the vertical and has a flattened foot. There are traces of sooting on all faces apart from the top, and where not present the item has a green patina.
It is 18.6mm in height, 25.7mm wide and the thickness varies from 14.5 at the upper end to 13.8mm at the foot. It…

Lead vessel repair or pot mend. A small neatly cast plug to mend a hole in a vessel wall of thickness c.6mm. patinated. One side is flat, the other is conical, albeit rather flattened. The neat finish of a pot mend is usually taken to indicate a Roman date.
