A complete gold-plated Late Bronze Age penannular ring with a copper alloy core, dating to the period 1150-750 BC. Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Buckinghamshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
An incomplete copper alloy early medieval disc brooch, dating from c. 5th to 6th century AD. The brooch is flat and circular, with a border of small punched ring-and-dot motifs running round the edge of the disc. Many of these motifs are now worn on the very edge, so that they appear crescentic. There is also a central circular dot. The reverse is not decorated. There is the remains of the sub-circular pin lug on one edge, with orange iron staining surrounding this, suggesting the pin was iron. On the opposite edge is the trapezoidal catchplate, now folded over so the end touches t…

TREASURE CASE 2018 T373. Description: An incomplete strip of decorated gold, of probable Bronze Age dating (c. 2150 BC to c. 1150 BC). The strip is an oval/ellipse shaped band that tapers towards the possible terminals. The terminals have a corrugated appearance consisting of three or four peaks and troughs, each created length-ways for approximately one quarter of the object's length. The central section of the band is undecorated but, like the rest of the object, displays a number of scuffs and striations to both surfaces. There is evidence of a fold at either end of the corrugat…

Cast circular lead-alloy object of plano-convex section, and with a circular panel stamped deeply and centrally into its convex face; small central dimple on the flat face. The larger circular indentation appears to be a maker's mark, possibly in the form of the triple plume badge of the Prince of Wales. The edges of the disc are broken all around. Diameter: 42.2mm, Thickness: 5.6mm, Weight: 40.94g. This object is similar to items known as 'palm guards', normally oval but occasionally circular, with one or more circular depressions in the convex face. Compare LIN-FF2959 and YORYM-B…
