A Copper-alloy and Iron buckle frame of Post-Medieval date (c. AD 1575 - 1700). The frame is asymmetrical and double looped and curves upwards. A sub-rectangular loop with a lateral terminal bar is decorated with two central incised transverse grooves, flanked either side by two oblique incised grooves. Opposite is the central pin bar which abuts the second loop. Semi-circular in plan, the loop exhibits a distorted and fractured diamond shaped, openwork terminal. A complete medieval copper alloy stud or mount dating from c. AD 1350-1400. The mount is domed in the centre, with six flattened petals projecting out around the edge. In the centre of the stud is a circular rivet hole with a seperate rivet contained within. The reverse is concave and hollow. The mount has a dark green patina and measures 14.2mm in diameter, 5.6mm in thickness, and weighs 0.79g. C.f. Read 2001, page 15, number 107.

Just over half of a post-medieval copper alloy double-looped buckle frame, both loops oval, with a lobe at the ends of the bar and a crudely moulded rosette in the centre of the edge(s). The form is comparable with Whitehead 2003, no. 408. An example from Camber Castle was found in a context dated 1543-1637 (Biddle et al. 2001, 260, fig. 7.2 no. 27). Estimated length 42mm. Width 24.5mm. c.1550 - c.1650.

An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Hod Hill type, dating from 50-100 AD. The brooch has been folded over so the head is next to the catch plate of the brooch. On the head of the brooch is the remains of a hinge, inside is iron staining from the original hinge pin. Attached to this in the centre is the loop of the copper alloy pin, the rest of the pin is missing. There is a raised ridge below the hinge, the brooch then narrows before widening into a sub triangular section on the bow of the brooch. An incomplete copper-alloy strap fitting or strap slide, probably dating to the Post-Medieval period (AD 1500-1700). The hollow strap fitting is sub-ovate and convex in shape, in the form of a scallop shell, with sub-parallel vertically aligned linear grooves decorating the upper surface. There are opposing sub-rectangular perforations on each side of the object through which straps would have passed, while the reverse is concave and undecorated. Depositional residue fills the cavity. A fragment of a Roman copper alloy Colchester or Polden Hill type brooch dating to c. 1st century AD. The fragment consists of the head of the brooch, with the wings still in situ, these were C shaped in cross section. The bow of the brooch curves downwards from the head of the brooch, it is T shaped in cross section with a central ridge. Post-medieval cast lead button or decorative stud, circular, plano-convex oval, decorated with a relief pattern of a sexfoil with central pellet between six further pellets and within a bordering line the outer edge engrailed. Casting seam and flattened tapering unpierced lug bent onto reverse. 19.5 x 20.5mm. 3.5mm thick (excluding lug). The lack of a perforation in the tapering lug on the reverse suggests that this otherwise button-like object was some kinf of decorative stud, see another example from the same site (NMS-957C5C). 17th century.

A fragment of a late Iron Age copper alloy brooch, probably dating from c.200 BC- to AD 50. The fragment is part of a bow brooch, which is circular in cross section. The bow has a ninety degree bend, below this it is widens out slightly, and has three raised collars. After the bend the brooch curls into a circular loop, this is the remains of the spring. At the opposite end the bow narrows and flattens, curving slightly before ending in a worn break. A Post-Medieval cast lead object: a palm guard, for use by a leather worker to protect the palm whilst stitching. In plan it is oval in shape, pointed at one end. It is D-shaped in cross-section. The flat surface is marked by one small lead mound near the centre to stop the needle slipping of the flat surface. Bailey (1995, 64-65) dates such objects to the 17th century onwards.
