Copper alloy penannular brooch. Cast round section band with opposed spherical terminals [of diameter 6mm], probably flattened on their faces. The relict of the sheet metal base of a pin is wrapped around the band. This plain brooch falls into Fowler Class A, alternatively defined by Mackreth (2011) as Mackreth type PEN k1.b, a type with Iron Age antecedents in Yorkshire, though an early Roman floruit in its simpler form. Copper alloy bell fragment. A small triangular shard from a cast spherical one-piece bell, retaining the edges of a sounding slot and sounding hole at its end, from the lower hemisphere of an animal bell. Incised decoration of this lower hemisphere included a semi-circular panel perhaps framing a maker's initial/s with paired lines radiating from it. The decoration is in atypically good condition, suggesting the breakage of a fairly new bell. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1750. Lead weight. One half of a plain thin cast discoid weight, with knife-cut edge; patinated. The mass leaves a wide date range open. It now equates to ten units of 4.43gms, as used in Viking Age Norway and also the Viking 'kingdom' of York and Dublin. The implication is that this could derive from the reduction of a twenty unit weight, which would be at the high end of the range of values represented by such objects. TREASURE CASE 2018 T373. Description: An incomplete strip of decorated gold, of probable Bronze Age dating (c. 2150 BC to c. 1150 BC). The strip is an oval/ellipse shaped band that tapers towards the possible terminals. A fragment of a Roman copper alloy 'trumpet' brooch probably dating to c. AD 75-150. The surviving fragment consists of the the head only, with the bow, and pin lost to old breaks.
