Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire

Copper alloy bell fragment. A small triangular shard from a cast spherical one-piece bell, retaining the edges of a sounding slot and sounding hole at its end, from the lower hemisphere of an animal bell. Incised decoration of this lower hemisphere included a semi-circular panel perhaps framing a maker's initial/s with paired lines radiating from it. The decoration is in atypically good condition, suggesting the breakage of a fairly new bell. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1650-1750. Length: 23.5mm, Width: 17.1mm, Thickness: 1.5mm, Weight: 3.36gms
